About Old Growth Rescue
Our History
Owner/Operator Don Lester has been teaching Boat Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, Rope Rescue and Ice Rescue full time for 15 years. As one of the lead instructors for Sierra Rescue and a Rescue 3 International Instructor Trainer he has taught groups including but not limited to Air Force Special Ops, Marine Corp, Coast Gaurd Rescue swimmers, South Korean 119 Rescue Services, Maui Fire Department, DWR, river guides and more.

At Old Growth Rescue, we offer 3-5 day Flood and Swiftwater Boat Operator courses as well as 3-7 day Rope Rescue Operations and Technician level courses, Ice Rescue, Swiftwater Rescue, paddle boat handling and more!

Flood Rescue Boat Operator
650.00 pp Minimum Course number 6 students/ Max Course Number 12 students
Flood Rescue Boat Operator is a 3 day Rescue 3 International course designed to train personnel in handling motorized boats during flood or open water operations. Students are exposed to a number of topics including types of motorized boats suitable for water rescue, boat handling on still or slow moving water, crew roles, boat safety and problem solving. Techniques are then put to work doing searches in flood environment, stranded victim, and in water retrieval of conscious and unconscious pax
Rope Rescue Operations
1000.00 pp Course minimum 6 students/ Course Max 10 students
This Rescue 3 International course meets and exceeds NFPA 1670 standards for Operations level training in Rope Rescue. This 3-4 day course is comprised of 100% hands on field based practical training. Skills taught will include Knots, Anchors, Mechanical Advantage, Raising/lowering systems, patient packaging, decent control devices, pickoffs and much more.
Rope Rescue Technician
1300.00 pp Course minimum of 6 students/Course max 10 students
This Rescue 3 International course meets and exceeds NFPA 1670 standards for Technician training in Rope Rescue. This 5-6 day course includes Operations training and is comprised of 100% hands on field based practical training. Skills taught will include all Operations skills plus ascending, artificial directionals including tripods, offsets, high lines and much more.
Swiftwater Rescue Technician
550.00 pp Course minimum of 6 students/course max of 12 students
This 3 day course meets and exceeds NFPA 1670 standards for Technician level training in Swiftwater Rescue.
Paddle Boat Handling
350.00 pp/per day 75.00 per day boat rental Rates will vary based on student number/equipment need
Whether you are a beginner or intermediate paddler these courses are designed to meet students needs. From paddle boats to maneuvering oar rafts and cataracts, you will receive tips and techniques to refine your boating skills. Course will emphasize safe river travel, hazard mitigation, reading water and scouting.
